Secretary of State for the National Community oversees the opening of the African cultural exhibition at M'fdi Zakaria Palace of Culture

Mr. Sofiane Chaib, Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, responsible for the National Community Abroad, supervised today the opening of the cultural exhibition organized at the M'fdi Zakaria Palace of Culture, in the presence of the Minister of Culture and Arts, Ms. Malika Bendouda, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Lounès Magramane, as well as the Dean of the African Diplomatic Corps accredited in Algeria, His Excellency the Ambassador of the Republic of Uganda, Mr. John Chrisostome Alintuma Nsambo.
This event, organized on the initiative of the African Group, is part of the celebration of Africa Day, corresponding to May 25, 2026, organized this year under the theme: "2026, Year of Water Sustainability: Ensuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems for the Achievement of the Objectives of Agenda 2063".
This celebration saw distinguished participation from African diplomatic missions accredited in Algeria, which contributed to the presentation of products reflecting the richness and diversity of traditional crafts and national dishes of their countries, as well as highlighting aspects of their cultural and civilizational heritage.
In his speech on this occasion, the Secretary of State emphasized the importance of water as a strategic and vital resource for achieving social and economic development in Africa. He stressed the need to strengthen continental cooperation to guarantee the right of current and future generations to benefit from safe and sustainable water resources, in line with the objectives of the African Union's Agenda 2063.
Mr. Sofiane Chaib praised the authentic African values, based on unity, solidarity and collective responsibility, which constitute an essential pillar to face the common climate challenges facing the continent, foremost among which are water scarcity, climate change and desertification.
He also highlighted Algeria's commitment to continue supporting the path of development and joint African action, based on its deeply rooted African belonging and its role in promoting peace and sustainable development on the continent.
